Friday Playlist: Volume 14

Friday Playlist: Volume 14

I've just about run out of clever names for each new playlist volume that go along with whatever number playlist it is, so I think it's a good time to move on to some numbers in sports.  First, up number 14, Jim Rice, who recently had his number retired by the Red Sox.

I've was looking for this song by Carmody a little while back and it just recently made its way onto Spotify and YouTube after only being on SoundCloud so I finally have the chance to get it on one of these playlists, so it gets the leadoff spot.  Bronze Radio Return had a song on the Showtime show Shameless this past season that wasn't released on any of their albums.  This is right up any BRR fan's alley and from every single comment on YouTube, fit perfectly with the scene in the show.

Michl only has a couple of songs so far but all of them have been pretty damn good.  His tracks all have a haunting quality to them (in a good way) and shares some similarities with Alex Vargas, another artist I'm really into.  All of CHVRCHES music is pretty dope and the Scottish synth-pop group made the theme song to Andy Greenwald's podcast, so they get extra bonus points there.  Kygo's full length album features some of my favorite artists on it from James Vincent McMorrow to Tom Odell to Kodaline.  That's the beauty of being a DJ (who is only freaking 24 by the way), you can just get tons of different genres of bands an musician on each on of your albums. The latest single release on the album features the brother and sister folk duo, Angus & Julia Stone.

The fact that Foy Vance is basically the reverse of Vance Joy is super annoying.  It bothers me way more than it should but that's just me.  The Irish singer-songwriter just released his third album today and I'm definitely digging his first single off of the record.  The British DJ Gemini happens to be from Leicester, so being included on this playlist is probably the second best thing that has happened to him other than Leicester winning the Premier League title against 5,000 to 1 odds in the past couple of weeks.

I feel like I stumble across a LostBoyCrow song every couple of weeks and he's one of those artists where you realize about halfway through song that your bobbing your head or tapping your foot so you Shazam the song.  I might just have to start being proactive looking out for his music from now on.  Wrapping up the playlist is a new song from country artist Frankie Ballard.  Fun fact, Ballard actually played college baseball with former MLB pitcher Dan Haren at Pepperdine.  Country music star isn't a bad backup plan to professional baseball if you ask me.  Ballard has already had 3 number one songs on country radio.

BONUS SONG: A new song from Glastonbury's own Royal just recently came out so check that out at the end of the playlist.
