Concert Review: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

Opening Act: None
Venue: Boston Opera House
Location: Boston, MA
Date: June 6. 2015

Noel Gallgher has pretty much said that he's not willing to do an Oasis reunion, basically because he can't stand his fucking brother Liam and unless they backed up a truckload of money and dumped it on his front lawn, it's just not worth it to put up with him.  Right now, with his backing bad, the High Flying Birds, he gets to plays songs that he likes, with a bunch of dudes that he likes, and on his own schedule.  That sounds like a pretty sweet gig to me.  Now, give it like 6-7 years, and maybe they'll do a summer of festivals or something, but until then, I have no problem seeing the next best thing, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

I've seen both Noel and Liam's band Beady Eye in concert and it's not even a comparison.  Noel blows him the fuck away.  For one, Noel was always the main songwriter for Oasis, so the songs he's writing for his new band are miles better than Beady Eye.  Secondly, because Noel wrote the majority of the songs for Oasis, Liam won't play any Oasis in concert.  On the flip side, Noel has no problems with doing that whatsoever.  So he has better new songs and plays a handful of old songs that everyone knows and loves.

This was the second time I've seen Noel in concert and he was great both times.  He played at the Wang Theater last time around and at the Boston Opera House this time around.  It's a great venue for a show, minus the annoyance of getting drinks.  They actually ran out of beer at this concert halfway through his set.  The crowd's at these things are always top notch as well, which really elevates everyone's enjoyment of the show if you ask me.

There was one dude in front of us who complained that "The Masterplan" was overrated when Noel started playing it during his encore, but everybody in the audience can't be awesome I guess.  But you tell me...

One more for good measure...

A couple of other pics that I took (my buddy next to me took 'cause my phone fucking sucks)

Favorite Song: "Whatever"
Song I Wish They Played: "Talk Tonight," Sunday Morning Call," or "Don't Go Away." Really he could have done any Oasis song (preferably acoustic because he sang those with Oasis) and I would have loved it.
Random Moment: Noel took a moment to address some guy in the audience who was trying to give him a demo CD of his band.  The combination of Noel's ability to banter and be funny with this guy's inability to promote his band is the definition of perfection.  And luckily, someone caught it on tape.
