College: USC Trojans
The Giants selected Devon Kennard with their compensatory pick in the 5th round and continued the targeting of high character leaders and guys who can play multiple positions. Kennard can line-up at linebacker and defensive end which fits with how the Giants like to move guys around the line.
Check out this quick analysis of the pick from NFL.com:
“Well-proportioned, muscular build. Generally plays on his feet. Can drop into short zones. Good tackler. Has played outside linebacker, middle linebacker and defensive end. Smart and tough. Team captain with outstanding intangibles, including leadership traits and a professional approach.” - Nolan Nawrocki, NFL.com
I don't know if it's a great sign when the first thing that a scout has to say about you is that you are well-proportioned. I've literally never heard that to describe any draft prospect in my life and have no idea what that has to do with being a successful football player. I think I'm going to start using it to describe players now though...saying something, while saying nothing.
- Team Captain for USC.
- Had the highest GPA on the Trojans football team. Not sure if that says more about him or other football players but he is currently working on getting his masters in communication management, so that's something. P.S. I think 95% of college athletes are communication majors.
- His father played O-Line in the NFL for 11 seasons with the Cardinals, Saints, and Cowboys.
- His reaction to being drafted by the Giants, coming out hot with the religious tweet:
I don't even want to post highlights this time. Just check out this super awkward interview from InsideTroy as this chick interviews Devon with his shirt off.
